Post-World announcement

PHR-111 SKULL KATALOG - Post-World Order 1-sided C32
First post-Sewn Leather delivery by Griffin Pyn. Five tracks of similar no-end, no-future apocalyptical beats, scuzzy noise and signature hard boiled, demonic vocals. The new style is more strict, more pumped-up and features extra leading by two-string electric guitar. It sounds like the world has come to an end and it's time to realize. Dive in the swamp.
Tour-only edition of 22 copies in b&w cardboard j-cards and handlabelled tapes.

PHR-110 FRANCE SAUVAGE - Το Μικρό Κορίτσι από τον Υπόνομο CDR
Recorded in Athens, Greece and edited the very same night, this mini album captures perfectly the cold atmosphere of a band being abroad, visiting a studio they've never seen before for just one session and create something that urges to be more free than usual. The concrete trio of France Sauvage (Manuel Duval, Arno Bruil and Johann Mazé) uses modular synthesizers, field recordings, contact mics, chants and numerous junk sources in the direct, in-your-face tradition of France's experimental scene and this album is really close to how these three interact at a non-local show of them: Energetic, raw, adventurous, focused. The english translation of the title is "The Little Girl from the Sewer" and could not be more accurate for the feelings which bloom while listening to this album.
Edition of 60 copies w/ paste-on artwork and and obi strip on heavy cardstock folder.

PHR-109 LOST BODIES - Φιγουρίνι CD
Phase! is proud to release the latest Lost Bodies' statement "Φιγουρίνι", the long awaited new album which will definitely please every LB fan! Almost 80 minutes of the signature avant gags, power punk arena favorites and twisted bastard-folk experiments, including studio versions of gig highlights like "Παρίσι Ντακάρ", "Αξέχαστο", "Γελάστε" and "Ιλισός". Lone kings of the athenian underground for more than 25 years (even though, they delivered some wtf moments through Virgin in the early '00s), Lost Bodies possibly stand as the only example of a pure caricatural sarcasm on Greece's rotten guts through a musically-incorrect quintessence of how political correction should be defined.
Edition of 300 copies w/ full-color artwork.

PHR-108 beaTol & the Eagol - Λάιβ EP 1-sided C60
Compiled material from 4 different concerts, it's a side of pure sample mash-up and a fine example of how a beaTol & the Eagol show sounds like: dizziness in stereo, beat distraction, jingled-up experimental music interconnected to twisted pop haikus. There are so many ideas in there but so is the abstain of persistence!
Edition of 30 copies w/ full-color artwork and spray painted tapes.

20131022

4 new releases (in every popular format) out OCT. 25

PHR-100 BALINESE BEAST / WHAM JAH Split LP (co-released w/ BB)
A long time in the works, we finally drop off a true early 10's Athens underground artifact. Two of the most active Greek bands, Balinese Beast (the cut-up stomp-punch destruction duo of Ilan Manouach and Giorgos Axiotis) and Wham Jah (the free-form rambunctious electrical mayhem of Pavlos Gkousios, Kostadis Michail and Panagiotis Spoulos) deliver two sides of an eye-sparkling platter filled w/ energy, persistence, baffle and soothing noise. Two entirely different approaches, one strong heart endorsing in musical poodle-like affection.
Edition of 300 copies w/ stamped labels, offset covers and offset obi-strips housed in a heavy duty poly sleeve.
18.00 euros ppd EU / 21.00 euros ppd elsewhere

PHR-105 N.213 - Meat Sweats C42
Nic Hughes (of Shearing Pinx and Isolated Now Waves fame) offers his latest homemade analog bouquet, filled with experimentation, twisted pop tunes and soul sucking confessions. Both sides bloom w/ lo-fi noir humid intimacy, groove with multi-instrumentalism freedom and yell that not even the bedroom ceiling is the limit. Let your astral ears explode into void.
Limited edition of 50 copies w/ full color j-cards.
7.00 euros ppd everywhere

PHR-106 DEAD GUM - Sleepy Town CDR
Blurry, multi-layered, dreamy imagery for a dark city at a summer night which almost looks like a ghost town. Numb emotions and gentle touches guide you to a private wandering where materialism cannot be felt. It's a delirious battle inside your dream warrior head. Drift around without touching the ground, smell the transparent fumes, hear the city's most intimate secret noises, make your very own narrations until the death of night finally comes. It's meant to be listened as one piece at the recommended track order.
Limited edition of 50, packaged in jewel case w/ full color artwork on textured paper.
7.00 euros ppd everywhere

PHR-107 BRIAN RURYK - Weird Doods C31
We always listen to new releases from our favorite Canadian destructionist, Brian Ruryk, with awe and impatience. He goes a step forward every time and that always makes you wonder from which direction this ultra violent metal screeching, glass breaking, frequence growl and intergalactic feedback zap will invade your head. Of course, this album is no exception. It sounds like the household explosion in the final sequence of "Zabriskie Point" playing in double speed. Plus more takes of it, reoccurring w/ asynchronously delay repeats causing pile-up crashes and demolition derbys.
Limited edition of 50 w/ full color artwork printed on metallic paper.
7.00 euros ppd everywhere.

4 new hot items for the summer

PHR-104 SEWN LEATHER - "Ροαξη Φινγερζζ ΒΣ. Ροψκ Σλινγερζζ" 1-sided LP
Sewn Leather is a trigger, a road warrior, the punk that can be smoked. Somewhere between Whitehouse nihilism, Wolf Eyes' high pitched suffocation and evil Prodigy rhythmology, Griifin Pyn re-invents the 21st century punk! On "Ροαξη Φινγερζζ ΒΣ. Ροψκ Σλινγερζζ", he offers his four latest (and yet cleanest) songs, soaked in battery acid, swallow-ready for the confusion generation. Sewn Leather is real.
Edition of 200 copies w/ 1-color offset covers. 15.00 euros ppd EU / 18.00 ppd anywhere else

Listen to the second song, "Φυλλ Σκυλλ" here:

PHR-103 BUDALAH / DEAD TRAVELLER Split C40
Muddy, nihilistic freak-out non-musical jamz from Thessaloniki's mysterious trio Budalah (neither Buddha nor Allah) and an archival dictaphones and mics performance by Dead Traveller (Nicolas Malevitsis from Absurd fame) at Modern Art Museum of Skopje, 2004. Everything sounds so wrong to be true.
Edition of 70 cassettes w/ on-body printing. 6.00 euros ppd everywhere

PHR-102 SARONGS - S/T C30
Sarongs were a 5-piece from Syracuse, New York which shook things up w/ sweaty DIY house shows and an awkward sound which confused everyone. When all other bands were dealing w/ playful garage warmth, Sarongs were making stripped-down minimal prog w/ doses of post punk, witty lyrics and raw, focused energy. Always true, often political, way ahead of their times. This is a reissue of the first Sarongs cassette that was released in 2011 by Prison Art / Velidoxi Records, not to be confused w/ the also eponymous LP that followed a year later.
Edition of 100 cassettes w/ on-body printing and multi-fold j-card w/ excerpts of the only Sarongs interview, courtesy of "Bande a Part" zine. 6.00 euros ppd everywhere

Here's a video of Sarongs playing "Goodbye Horses":

PHR-101 TOM CRUISIN' - "The Drifter's Almanac" 3''CDR
This is the kind of music you should be listening while driving your car in a big metropolitan city, way deep into the night. City looks abandoned but you feel there's a pulse hidden somewhere. A duet, sounds a bit like a Suicide cover band, is playing at the lowest basement downtown. So loud and so low, the tires bouncing over asphalt vibrations caused by groovebox pumps and fiendish electricity. It's the sound of the city itself. A city which looks different every morning but is always the same at night.
Edition of 70 copies w/ artwork and disc attached on heavy cardstock. 6.00 euros ppd everywhere

The first 2 releases of 2013

PHR-98 BIG CITY ORCHESTRA - Screaming Meeme CDR New installment by the veteran, surprising supergroup, filled w/ avant chants and lynchian drones. An esoteric thesis on silent screaming and growing isolation through an eroded –but detailed– magnifying glass. The staff on this release was Ninah Pixie, Cliff Neighbors, Rosie Langabeer, Jonathan Segel, Univac, Daevid Allen, Melissa Margolis and Das. Edition of 65 copies w/ glued color artwork on lime cardstock and stenciled discs.

PHR-99 REVERSE MOUTH w/ BRIAN OSBORNE - Jacko Blues C60 Recorded in Brooklyn, New York in 2009, the day Michael Jackson died, Reverse Mouth shreds along w/ free-form percussionist and long time bro, Brian Osborne (Heat Retention Records, member of Blastocyst, George Steeltoe Ensemble and The Gate Trio w/ Dan Peck, among others). Somewhere between Harry Pussy, cripple prog, punk ra + nihilism, this is a fine example of no future basement noise. Edition of 40 spraypainted tapes housed in cardstock wrap-around covers.

(PHR-97) DEAD GUM - Bootlegum C60

PHR-97 DEAD GUM - "Bootlegum" C60
For hardcore fans only and in the tradition of the bootleg releases that most of us used to listen to when we were young and so on, Dead Gum pays tribute to all those audience recordings which don't sound right. The release is consisted of live recordings captured w/ a distorted, modulated belt mini-amp instead of a microphone and played as clean as could get through-out. As a result, the material itself is been hidden through several layers of noise, unpolished, transmitted through another dimension.

Limited edition cassette out next week, check www.phasejunk.com

Dead Gum's newest release, "Bootlegum" is available through bandcamp: http://deadgum.bandcamp.com/. For some reason, i couldn't state it as a free download. If you want it, just enter 0 USD. You shouldn't be paying for that!

(PHR-93) HAMMER OF HATHOR - Saw Isosceles C40

A fine packer of a lost LP by United Staters, Hammer of Hathor, a boy-girl duo of many faces + talents. They mainly shred guitar and bang drumskins on this one in a very primitive way and we-don't-care attitude. The result not only flirts w/ atonal punk and heavy jam energy but repeatedly fucks w/ the brain of the non-music listener. The unconventional way of instrument approach amplifies a universe of electrical guts purely captured with analog and monophonic equipment.
Edition of 50 copies w/ glossy color j-cards and electrique-blue tapes. 6.00 euros ppd everywhere, order at phasejunk.com.

(PHR-92) WHAM JAH - Heads CDR

A powerful jam burner -identical of the recent Wham Jah shows- divided into four chapters. Free-form instant song-making drowned in a noise/jazz reverb valley full of zombie ravers. Prequel to the forthcoming full-length and the split LP w/ Balinese Beast. Edition of 100 copies w/ xerox artwork. ORDER HERE

(PHR-91) PUTSUM - Afro Black Metal C60

Three Putsum live performances which took place between late 2011 and early 2012. He proved that Vlad Tepes Dracula was a vegetarian using a caustic reference to reality TV, shouted that Black Metal is not a caucasian-male exclusive benefit, and ressurrected Christ to a fucking zombie, which is something more rational, by the way. The Putsum performances stand between conceptual art, arte povera and punk actionism but the music itself has something else: the unique blended sequence of a madman's mind. You might not get the whole picture, but you are surely getting another view of this great project! Tour only cassette, in an edition of 65 copies w/ screenprinted fold-out j-cards. Limited stock, catch Putsum on the road w/ Bazooka and Gay Anniversary all over Europe this May. Tour dates here.

(PHR-90) ANGELS IN AMERICA - Greecings Caesar C60

An hour-long definite "Angels..." collection consisted of live action, outtakes and other experiments. "Greecings Caesar" might be the best introduction, if you're not familiar w/ the dark, mystagogic saga of these youngster's duo but be sure to check all the other recordings of them at FMA. Every single release (tapes on Ecstatic Peace!, Digitalis and Night People, LP on Ehse Records plus a split tape w/ Weyes Blood on Northern Spy) is somewhat perfect! Merv Glisten and Moppy Pont serve sentimental harshness at its best.
Edition of 100 tapes w/ on-body printing and screenprinted j-cards.

(PHR-85) PUTSUM - Masque of the Red Death 3"CDR

Debut release from Athens' most prolific black metal / spoof performance solo project, Putsum. This release is a recording from northern Greece earlier in 2011, in the day of "Annunciation" 2011. Negative low frequency drone at the gates of a minimal hell.
Edition of 60 copies w/ screenprinted covers, rubberstamped discs + die-cut skull sticker. Extra limited first run of magenta print (instead of blood red) on the first 10 or so.

(PHR-84) BETTY LOOP LOOP / ΑΓΓΕΛΟΣ ΚΥΡΙΟΥ / ΚΤΙΡΙΑ ΤΗ ΝΥΧΤΑ Split 2xCS

This double cassette set surely is an original early 10's Athens' artefact. Two solo projects, Angelos Kyriou & Ktiria ti Nyxta (Buildings at Night), completely diffrent from what we've heard till the negative urban space has thrown them up, they redefined music with greek lyrics. Angelos' side offers a typical example of his spastic, obsessed, sincere miniature song-marathon collage while Ktiria delivers a thunderstorm cut-up of -sometimes bootleg- recordings of friends' conversations blended w/ the signature hi-pitch electronic mayhem. The two 5-minute sides sound like a dream radio station. The one we've all wished to exist, the one we're pretty sure will never happen.
Betty Loop Loop takes all over the second 36-minute tape and all of her gig highlights are present with further more self-exploration / experimentation. She's nothing more than the two above mentioned guys together. Literally. She's more than just beautiful...
Released in a double cassette jewel case w/ full color artwork and tape labels. Edition of 80 copies.

Below is some Betty Loop Loop action at ElCulture rooftop, downtown Athens, May 2011:

And here's a video of excerpts of solo sets, live in Thessaloniki, amazingly shot by Alex:

(PHR-83) BIG BLOOD & THE WICKED HEX LP

A stunning new album including 5 long jams (23 minutes each side) which balance perfectly between the homey "Strange Maine" sound, the collage aesthetic of "The Grove" and the extraordinary singer/songwriter approach as heard on "Dead Songs". If it wasn't released by Phase!, it would certainly top a position in the 2011 TOP-13 albums!
Comes in an edition of 350 copies w/ 2-color awesome screenprinted jacket + insert.

Here's the album's opening track, "Run", performed live in Thessaloniki:

(PHR-81) DJ MISTAKES - S/T 1-sided LP

“DJ mistakes are two exercise bicycle driven turntables fabricated and ridden by Casey Farnum and Elliot Hess. This project re-introduces spontaneity into the DJ experience and asks how production and industry have assembled to create a listening experience quite different from the hand-cranked turntables it was initially borne from. With a shrug to the practice of crystallizing performances and their reception through vinyl and the audiophile entertainment- center this project re-introduces human touch into the listening experience. It looks back nostalgically to a time when gears and bicycles were the stuff of aural and physical revolutions. Yet it also seeks a contemporary framework in the DJ era where cutting and mixing revolutionized production making it both unpredictable and live. Bikes, turntables, gongs, a mixer, records, and a microphone all mash in this recording live from the Chicken Hut and 1086 Broadway, Brooklyn NY 2006-7.” Phil Schapp, 2011

Limited numbered edition of 200 copies on 1-sided 12”LP, offset covers on metallic paper + inners.

Here's a wicked DJ Mistakes performance at the University of Iowa:

(PHR-80) SLICING GRANDPA - The Abstracticator CDR

Slicing Grandpa. No fucking joke. They're ripping it harder than anyone else. One of the favorite bands on the house. Garbage grunge collage abstractness at its lo-fiest, away from every trend, away from any hip. They're not old-fashioned, they're slicing-fashioned. Buy at your own risk...
Edition of 60 copies w/ screenprinted covers.

(PHR-79) ARKLIGHT / DEAD GUM split C60

Lens traveling through inner depths of transatlantic mirrorings. Light is never enough to clearly get the whole picture. On two homogeneous sides, two blindfolded cinematic enigmas are the only clue. Dig Sherlock, dig!
Edition of 65 copies w/ screenprinted covers.
